The PANA Coalition (formerly PAN Coalition) is a political alliance between three political parties in Kosovo: the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and Initiative for Kosovo which stood in the 2017 elections. The New Kosovo Alliance joined the coalition after the elections.
Kosovo war leaders turned politicians, signed an agreement to enter pre-electoral coalition, proposing ex-Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander, Ramush Haradinaj, running for prime minister in upcoming elections set to be held on 11 June. The PDK-AAK-Nisma coalition will challenge the ‘moderate coalition’ headed by Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).
The large coalition between the PDK, AAK and Nisma was reached a few minutes before the official deadline set by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on creation of pre-election coalitions expired. In addition to the AAK and Nisma, the PDK has reached an agreement with seven small parties to run under one candidate’s list for the future legislation of Kosovo. The PDK which in previous elections was the most voted party in Kosovo, agreed that the leader of the smaller coalition party – AAK, Ramush Haradinaj runs for the office of prime minister in Kosovo, whereas the PDK leader Kadri Veseli will head the candidate’s list. Based on the agreement the leader of Nisma, Fatmir Limaj, who spilt the PDK and established his political party, will be appointed first deputy prime minister if the coalition wins parliamentary elections. This is the first time since the end of the war that all former KLA commanders who turned politicians joined in one political front.
