Oxytricha trifallax is a ciliate species in the genus Oxytricha.

O. trifallax is notable for its ability to split its 16,000 chromosomes resulting in it having as many as 225,000 tiny strands of DNA. For comparison, humans have 46 chromosomes, consisting of 23 pairs.
