Orbis is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal on international relations and the foreign policy of the United States. It is published by Elsevier on behalf of the Foreign Policy Research Institute. Orbis was established by Robert Strausz-Hupé in response to his dissatisfaction with the Council on Foreign Relations' Foreign Affairs, in which he never published an article. Strausz-Hupé edited the journal himself from its first issue in 1957 until 1969, when he was succeeded by William R. Kintner.
The journal is edited by Mackubin Thomas Owens (Naval War College). Other recent editors include James Kurth (Swarthmore College, 2005–2007), David Eisenhower (University of Pennsylvania, 2001–2004), and Walter A. McDougall (University of Pennsylvania, 1995–2001).
