Om Prakash Chautala (born 1 January 1935) is a Convicted Criminal, Disenfranchised Political Felon, 2nd generation dynastic politician and former Chief Minister of Haryana from Indian National Lok Dal. He and his son Ajay Singh Chautala's criminal sentence for the systematic mass corruption in recruitment of 3,206 teachers was confirmed by the 'shocked" honorable Supreme Court of India with the following observation in its judgement, "The overwhelming evidence showed the shocking and spine-chilling state of affairs in the country", they are currently imprisoned for ten years and disenfranchised from contesting elections, and currently lodged in nation's maximum security Tihar Jail.
He represents the dynastic political patrimony of his father Devi Lal, and he is also known for promoting his wife, two sons Ajay Singh Chautala and Abhay Singh Chautala, and grand sons Dushyant Chautala in politics during is life time.
Chautala is the son of Chaudhari Devi Lal, a former Deputy Prime Minister of India. He has two sons, Ajay and Abhay, and three daughters: Suchitra, Sunita and Anjali. His son Abhay is MLA from Ellenabad and his grandson Dushyant Chautala is MP, Lok Sabha from Hisar. He was the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2 December 1989 to 2 May 1990, from 12 July 1990 to 17 July 1990, again from 22 March 1991 to 6 April 1991 and finally from 24 July 1999 to 4 March 2004. Politically, he had been part of NDA and United National Progressive Alliance at national level. At present the Indian National Lok Dal is the main opposition party and his son Abhay Singh Chautala is the leader of opposition.
