Oh Wonder are a London-based alt-pop duo, consisting of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West. Since releasing their DIY debut album, they have seen international success with their alt-pop singles. Vander Gucht and West recorded and released one song a month for a year, starting in September 2014. All of the songs were released together as a self-titled debut album on 4 September 2015.
They played sold out shows in London, Paris, New York, and LA one week after their debut album release which marked the beginning of the band's touring career.
Raised in London, Josephine was classically trained in singing, violin, and piano. Anthony was born and raised in the Isle of Man. He moved to Canada for a year before settling in England. Anthony was introduced to guitar through his uncle, who was a bluegrass musician. He was in several rock bands such as Futures and We the Wild, which was also a duo band. Vander Gucht made solo music under the alias Layla.
West and Vander Gucht had an unorthodox approach to crafting their debut album, Oh Wonder. They wrote, recorded and released one song every month, beginning on 1 September 2014. Each song was written, produced and mixed by the duo in their home studio in South-East London. These monthly installations culminated a year later in the release of their album, which included two unreleased songs. The album reached number 26 on the UK Albums Chart, number 16 on the Canadian Albums Chart and number 80 on the US Billboard 200.
In the order they were released:
Oh Wonder gave their debut live performance for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios, after receiving avid support from BBC Introducing and DJs Huw Stephens and Greg James.
