Ogba, also called the Ogba people, are a separate nationality of a total sovereignty that has a reliable origin source traceable to Ancient Benin Empire with a language that is corrupted into that which is called Ogba Language. Again, it is clear and understandable that inter-gemological relationship takes place between neighbours as such the possibility of inter-embedding of adages and words from each other stands no crime or a resultant claim of inclination from any quarter. , situated in Northeast of the modern Rivers State of Nigeria. The Ogba people comprise fourteen extended families divided into clans, and occupy an area of about 600 km in the Niger flood plain.
The Great Ogba Kingdom has two Clans – Egi and Igburu. There are several communities that made up this great Ogba kingdom, namely; Omoku, Obrikom (Egbeku), Obie, Obor, Okpurukpuali, Ebogoro, Elieta, Okposi, Amah, Egbada, Uju, Elieta, Aknasu, Osiakpu, Ikiri, Elehia, Ohnuga, Obigwe, Ogbidi, Ede, Obite, Ogbogu, Akabuka, Egita, Erema, Oboburu, Obukaegi, Obiebe, Obiozimini, Akapta (1&2), Obagi, Ohna-li-Usomini, Idu (1&2), Kreigani, Ali-igwu excluding two great historic communities Obiodna or Ahiawhor that has gone to extinction with left over artifacts depicting old settlement and one that existed partially (the present NAOC environment) and now joined with Obrikom Community which is called Ohguh. The two clans are rich with oil and gas. A study conducted in Ogbogu located in one of the largest oil producing regions of Nigeria has utilized two plant species to clean up spills. The first stage of cleanup involves Hibiscus cannabinus.
Ogba Kingdom which has a pioneering and central monarch called Oba – Eze Ogba that is the great custodian of the people has produced prominent people of high intellectual and contributional prowess both dead and alive that has contributed immensely in the political and economic growth of Rivers State and Nigeria a large as we will never forget in a hurry; Professor Claude Ake of great repute. Nevertheless, Ogba Kingdom has clan heads and other Monarchs in addition as Eze Egi, Eze Igburu, Eze Ohnali, Eze Nwadei, Eze Usomini and their attached Cabinet Chiefs.
Ogba Kingdom speaks Ogba language, consisting of the Egi and Igburu ascents. They both speak one dialect with little difference with each other, having a combine population of about 280,000 people. It is located in the central Orashi-Sombreiro plains of Rivers State. Nigeria is one of the major producers of the CRUDE OIL that fuels Nigeria’s economic development in recent decades. According to current oil company records, no local government in Nigeria produces as much crude oil and gas as the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government(ONELGA).
As a result of the oil industry, Ogba Kingdom has undergone significant political, social, economic and environmental changes during the past several decades. However, despite its image as one of the main contributors to the wealth of Nigeria, there is a lot of poverty in many communities resulting from unemployment, under-employment, low wage jobs and deterioration of the natural resource base.
