Northview High School is located in Plainfield Township, Kent County, Michigan, a Northeastern suburb of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a National Blue Ribbon school in 2001. The high school is one of the two high schools in the Northview Public Schools system.

The Northview Public School District was born in the late 1950s. As the population of greater Grand Rapids swelled, the need for a high school became clear, and in an effort to pool the financial resources needed to build a high school, several small rural school districts merged with the Oakview Public School District to form Northview Public Schools. In 1959, construction began on the building, and in 1962, Northview High School opened its doors to its first students. In 2011 and 2012, two tax proposals gave over 43.5 million dollars towards renovating the high school campus, as well as the athletic facilities. In the early fall of 2014, the construction was completed.

The average ACT score of Northview for Juniors in the 2006-2007 school year was a 20, which is the national average. Approximately 70% of the students passed each section of the Michigan Merit Exam. 38% of all students participate in Advanced Placement testing. US News reported that the student body of Northview High School has a 61% English proficiency rate and a 41% math proficiency rate.

The NHS Marching Band has made it to Michigan State Marching Band Championships every year since it began competing in the Michigan Competing Band Association The band has competed at over 20 State Final Competitions and has competed at hundreds of other MSBOA competitions. The band is currently directed by Greg Wells and Mark Lago. [1]

Northview High School publishes a student run online news source titled The NV Roar. The news source started publishing during the 2016/2017 school year and reports on a wide range of subjects. [2]

Northview hosts the Cleo R. Anders chapter of the National Honor society and works to promote leadership, academic excellence and community service.

Northview's theatre department puts on student-cast shows during the school year. Typically the school will showcase a straight play during the fall season and a musical during the spring season. The drama department also puts on a Drama Club, a weekly workshop where students work to improve their acting abilities.
