The RAF Force Protection Force Headquarters was created in 2004 as the successor to the Tactical Survive to Operate Headquarters (Tac STO HQ). It controls the Force Protection Wings which are tasked with protection of RAF stations in the UK and overseas. Each Wing is based around an RAF Regiment squadron, with additional RAF Police, RAF Intelligence, and other support staff.
No. 1 Force Protection Wing is based at RAF Wittering, and has a number of different units under its control:
It is due to be disbanded in early 2015 with personnel reassigned to other units.
No. 2 Force Protection Wing is based at RAF Leeming, and has a number of different units under its control:
No. 3 Force Protection Wing is based at RAF Marham, where it was formed in April 2004, and has a number of different units under its control.
Its motto is Parare Et Protegrere ("Prepare & Protect"). The Officer Commanding is Wing Commander Jonathan Derbyshire.
No. 4 RAF Force Protection Wing was based at RAF Lyneham, until the base was closed at the end of 2012.

No. 6 Force Protection Wing RAF was based at RAF Leuchars, where it was formed in January 2006, and had a number of different units under its control:
Their motto was Viribus Protege ("Defend the forces"). The wing was disbanded on 10 May 2014.
