Nily Rozic is a legislator from Queens, New York, who is a member of the New York State Assembly.
Rozic represents New York’s 25th District, which spans the northeast portion of Queens, including the communities of Flushing, Queensboro Hill, Hillcrest, Fresh Meadows, Oakland Gardens, Bayside, and Douglaston.
In 2012, Rory I. Lancman, the Former Democratic Incumbent of the 25th District, had decided to attempt an election for New York City Council in District 24’s Seat. Prior to leaving the assembly seat, he directly sponsored Nily Rozic for the position.
Jerry Iannece from Bayside, faced her in the Party Primary winning 44.4 Percent (About 1,854 registered democrats) of the District.
Rozic was able to gain roughly 55.6 percent of the vote from democrats in the district. Due largely, to the amount of established democrats in the party that sponsored her. She won the primary and went on to face the other parties in the General Election.
In the 2012 General Election, Rozic faced the Republican and Conservative Party candidates from the district. The Republican Candidate, Abraham Fuchs, gained about 6 thousand votes (Roughly 26.9 percent of the district's registered voters). The Conservative Party Candidate, William N. Garifal Jr., received about 655 votes (About 2,9 percent of the district).
She also faced the former opposition in her party, Jerry Iannece, in the general election, with his unopposed nomination for the Independence Party of New York on the ballot.
Upon her election in 2012, Assemblywoman Rozic became the youngest woman ever elected to the state legislature, an honor formerly held by Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, and the first woman ever to represent the 25th District.
Post-Election she was appointed to serve on the Assembly’s Children and Families, Corporations, Authorities and Commissions, Correction, Environmental Conservation, and Labor Committees.
She was also a member of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus and the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, two of the many appointments she still holds in the Assembly Chambers.
Rozic was selected as a Rising Star on City & State’s annual list of the Next Generation of Political Leaders. She was also a featured speaker at Running Start’s Young Women’s Political Summit and at the American Association of University Women‘s Elect Her: Campus Women Win Initiative.
In the 2014 Assembly Race, Nily Rozic ran unopposed for the Democratic Primary in the district.
Rozic's first run on third party lines was in the 2014 General Election. She ran on the Working Families Party and Independence Party Lines. She was not challenged in the 2014 general election for the 25th Assembly District.
