Nikolai Dmitriev-Orenburgsky

Nikolai Dmitrjewitsch Dmitrjeff-Orenburgsky or Nikolaj Dmitrievic Dmitriev-Orenburgskij (1 November 1838 in Nizhny Novgorod – 21 April 1898 in Saint Petersburg) was a Russian painter. He spent 1875–1885 living and working in Paris.

Orenburgsy was one of the fourteen students who decided in 1863 to leave The Imperial Academy of Arts, and who formed an independent artistic society - The Petersburg Cooperative of Artists (Artel), which preceded the Association of Travelling Art Exhibits (known as: the Wanderers or Peredvizhniki).

Orenburgsy is known for the military themes that predominated his work after he participated in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, and for paintings depicting Russian village life (the lives of simple people, the peasants, in specific). His work is collected and exhibited, inter alaia, in the Hermitage Museum,, The Russian Museum and The Museum of Russian Art.
