Nijgadh International Airport is a proposed airport development project in Nijgadh, Nepal. The airport is intended to relieve expected capacity restraints at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, as well as provide another point of entry for international aircraft, should Tribhuvan International Airport unexpectedly close. It is targeted to be complete by December 2018. The proposed airport site lies 150 kilometres (93 mi) from Kathmandu by road. It is expected that the airport will feature two parallel runways, and it will be capable to handle 15 million passengers annually as well as the Airbus A380. The development project also includes an "airport city" and a modern road connection between Nijgadh and Kathmandu.
The Indian government expressed interest in constructing the airport; however, the Nepalese K.P. Oli government has mobilized its own funds for the project.
