Nicola King (also Blackstock and De Souza) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Emmerdale. She has been played by Nicola Wheeler since she joined the soap in 2001. Wheeler quit her role in January 2006, with her on-screen departure airing in March. Wheeler chose to return to the soap eighteen months later and made her return in September 2007. She also took maternity leave throughout 2015, and Nicola departed temporarily on 26 March 2015 to go to Dubai to work there for six months. She made a brief appearance on 7 May 2015 via webcam, and then made her full-time return on 11 November 2015, when she was kicked out of Dubai for an incident that happened to her there.
Nicola came to the village to meet her older half-sister, Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) and stayed with her father, (Patrick Mower). She met and became friends with Emily Kirk (Kate McGregor). Within months, Nicola became interested in chef Carlos Diaz (Gary Turner), unaware that he was involved with Bernice. She chased him for a while before they ended up in bed after Bernice dumped him, wanting to make her marriage work. Scared she might lose Carlos, Nicola announced she was pregnant and was stunned yet elated when he proposed, which she accepted.
On her hen night, Bernice caught her drinking vodka and Nicola admitted that she had lied about being pregnant. Bernice, who was herself pregnant, was horrified and insisted she tell Carlos before the ceremony. Furious that she would lie to him like that, Carlos told Nicola about his affair with Bernice and that the baby she was carrying could be his. Disgusted, Nicola attacked Bernice with her bouquet before storming into the church to announce that the wedding was off, due to Carlos's infidelity. She also told Ashley about Bernice's affair and the fact that he might not be the father of Bernice's baby. Despite her mother's suggestion that she go home with her, Nicola stayed with Rodney and eventually forgave Bernice. She became godmother to Ashley and Bernice's daughter, Gabby Thomas (Annelise Manojlovic).
