Neil Anderson (born April 14, 1982) is an American Republican politician who is the represents the 36th district in the Illinois Senate. He defeated incumbent Democrat Mike Jacobs in the November 2014 election. The 36th district, located in Western Illinois, includes all or parts of East Moline, Moline, Rock Island, Rock Falls and Sterling.
Anderson defeated incumbent Democratic State Senator Mike Jacobs in the 2014 general election, 55%-45%.
Anderson works as a firefighter/paramedic for the Moline Fire Department and has a wife and two children.
Anderson ran for state representative in 2012 in the 72nd district. He lost to incumbent representative Patrick J. Verschoore by a margin of 64%-35%.
Anderson serves as Republican spokesperson for the Senate Agriculture Committee as well as serving on the Senate Transportation, Licensed Activities, Commerce, Energy, and Gaming committees.
Neil was raised in the Quad City area and grew up working alongside his father in the family business installing floors. While attending the University of Nebraska he tried out for the football team as a walk-on. Neil was the only walk-on, out of 372 student athletes, to make the final team and join the roster.
After attending the University of Nebraska, Neil and his wife, Brandi, moved back to the Quad Cities where he joined a volunteer fire department. It didn’t take long for Neil to realize that serving the public as a firefighter was his true life calling. He went on to earn his paramedic license and join the Moline Fire Department in 2006.
