The National Library of São Tomé and Príncipe (Portuguese: Biblioteca Nacional de São Tomé e Príncipe) is located in the capital city of São Tomé in São Tomé and Príncipe in the neighborhood of Náutico. The library opened in 1999. The library maintains the National Bibliography, contains the country's historical archives and the theses and dissertation bank and is a legal deposit. It is at an intersection of two avenues Independência and Nações Unidos (United Nations), the latter is the ES3.

The was responsible under the legal deposit system in, it was created under lat no. 28684 of March 18, 1952, during the colonial rule. It styled administrative were pending for renovation. Nearby is National Lyceum is located nearby and Avenida 12 de Julho (also as Avenida Marginal/12 de Julho.

Before the national library opened, São Tomé Municipal Library was the most important library in the colony housed about 3,500 to 5,000 books.

Since independence, new services were added at the municipal building. As a result, the library fell in decay and later was closed. It was divided between an institution created between the Francisco José Tenreiro Hall of Literature and the Scientific and Technical Documentation Center inside the capital.

In which the owners that claimed the return of that space in the library were put, the state created the Francisco José Tenreiro Cultural Center, named after one of the country's greatest writer. It made up of the only public library that worked in the nation for about ten years. In a part of the 1990s, it started to bring new books from Santomean district capitals

In 1994, a newer library was planned by the National Assembly. Construction was planned and financed by China, and was opened on May 2002.
