Napoleon Township is a civil township of Jackson County in the U.S. states of Michigan. The population was 6,962 at the 2000 census. The Census Bureau has defined an urbanized area within the township as a census-designated place for statistical purposes; see Napoleon, Michigan.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 31.4 square miles (81 km2), of which 29.5 square miles (76 km2) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) (6.33%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,962 people, 2,592 households, and 1,938 families residing in the township. The population density was 236.4 per square mile (91.3/km²). There were 2,824 housing units at an average density of 95.9 per square mile (37.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 96.61% White, 0.86% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.69% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.55% of the population.
There were 2,592 households out of which 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.04.
