NHN Entertainment Corp. (KRX: ) is a South Korean developer, publisher and distributor of mobile and PC games founded in December 1999 under the name Hangame Communications, Inc. NHN Entertainment is well known for its mobile game Fish Island, Fish Friends and Wooparoo Mountain and its online PC game EOS(Echo of Soul), ASTA, Football Day, Tera and Kritica. More than 40 different online games including RPG games, casual web board games and sports games are available in its game portal, hangame.com (Hangame). Currently, NHN Entertainment has more than 20 million total users and more than 0.3 million concurrent users.
It was founded in December 1999 under the name Hangame Communications, Inc. In July 2000, Hangame Communications officially merged with South Korea’s largest search engine company, Naver.comm. Upon the merger, the name of the company was changed to "Next Human Network", or NHN, although the two divisions continue to operate under their original brand names. On August 1, 2013 NHN was re-split into NHN Entertainment Corporation and Naver Corporation for strategic reasons. On February 1, 2014, NHN Entertainment divested the assets of its personal computer (PC) online game business and mobile game business into three new wholly owned subsidiaries, namely NHN Studio 629 Corporation, NHN BlackPick Corporation and NHN PixelCube Corporation, which will be engaged in the operation of different games.
