Munin Barua (Assamese: মুনিন বৰুৱা) is one of the prominent Assamese film director as well as a famous name in Assamese cultural world. Pita-Putro, Prabhati Pokhir gaan, Hiya Diya Niya, Daag, Nayak are some his highly popular Assamese movies. He had created a new era in the late 90's in Assamese Film Industry. In 2000, his film Hiya Diya Niya created history as 'blockbuster hit' in Assamese cinema, which also helped to revive the Assamese film industry. His film Dinabandhu received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Assamese in 2005. He is popularly known as Bhaimon da.
Barua was born in 1947 at Khumtai in Golaghat district, Assam. His father was late Hemendra Nath Barua and mother is Latika Barua. His father was the mouzadar in Khumtai mouza. He is the youngest in his family.
He married Manjula Barua of Jorhat in December 1974. Manjula Barua is an actress as well as a costume designer in Assamese film industry. They have two children, Manas and Puja.
Munin Barua started his career in Assamese cinema as a scriptwriter and assistant director in mid 70's. He also written scripts in many plays of mobile theaters. Apart from movies Barua also directed television serials like- Papu Nikur Xongbad and Rudra (Telefilm).
