Mr. Bharath is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by S. P. Muthuraman. The film stars Rajinikanth, Sathyaraj, Ambika, Goundamani, S. V. Shekhar and others. The film which was a remake of Hindi film Trishul revolves around a son's revenge against his father for cheating on his mother. The movie was declared a hit at the box office.

Bharath (Rajinikanth) is a young, educated man who does not know who his father was. Shanti, (Sharada) mother of Bharath tells him the past about his father, but, on her deathbed.

Flashback: Gopinath (Sathyaraj) an educated, young rich man, arrives at Paapampatti village (where Shanti resides), for engineering a construction work. He gains interest over her, for being the innocent village girl that she was, working under him as a manual labour at his construction unit. He tries to impress her, by him - pretending innocent. She, in turn, entrusts him wherein he takes the fullest advantage of her. Soon after the construction work Gopinath was engineering for - got over, he goes about to move out of the village. Getting to know his departure, Shanti runs into him. After a brief conversation, Gopinath promises Shanti that he would return soon to take her arms lawfully in front of the society which convinces her and leaves the village. Months later, Shanti, who eagerly and desperately awaited for Gopinath to return expecting the promise he lent, be fulfilled, finds out that from fellow villagers that he was about to get wed to another woman. Disappointed, she travels to Madras with the help of the visiting card that Gopinath had given her earlier to his office. After both having a furious heads-up, Gopinath expresses a denial to accept her stating she has no proof regarding the intimacy that made her conceive and says she was after him but, only for his richness. Exasperated, yet Insulted, Shanti swore to Gopinath saying that one day her son will question him on the future of his actions and make him forcibly confess the truth about his ill nature and leaves. Over the course of time, Shanti faces hardships and raises her son to be what he becomes as now not revealing her past until her final hour.
