Montana: The Magazine of Western History

Montana The Magazine of Western History was created on April 1, 1950 as an informational extension of the Montana Historical Society. The magazine celebrated its 60th anniversary on November 17, 2011.

Montana The Magazine of Western History began as a seed of the Montana Historical Society, which was originally called the Historical Society of Montana. The Historical Society was created by a statute of the territorial legislature on February 2, 1865.

Montana the Magazine of Western History, publishes historical articles with a focus on the state of Montana as well as the western United States.
