Modus is a Swedish television psychological thriller directed by Lisa Siwe and Mani Maserrat. The story is adapted by Emmy Award winners Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe from the book Frukta inte by Norwegian author and lawyer Anne Holt. The eight-part series premiered on TV4 in September 2015. Modus was broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Four during November and December 2016.
Inger Johanne Vik, Swedish criminal psychologist and profiler, has previously assisted the Swedish police and the FBI in the US. Now living in Sweden, Inger Johanne works in the academic world. She has two daughters. The elder, Stina, is autistic and unwittingly witnesses a contract killing when the family is attending a wedding at a hotel; the murderer surprisingly saves Stina's life without giving away his identity. Inger decides to return to work with police detective Ingvar Nyman to assist in solving the crime. They discover that they are pursuing a serial killer, working for an American religious sect.
