Mirigama (also spelled Meerigama) (මීරිගම in Sinhala, மீரிகம in Tamil) is a town in Gampaha District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is located 57 km from Colombo, and 34 km from Negombo. Mirigama has direct rail and highway connections to many cities in the country. Mirigama is the hometown of Sri Lanka's first Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake . The first stage of the E04 Expressway (Kadawatha to Kandy) is currently being constructed from Kadawatha to Mirigama.
Mirigama is an economic hub in the region, and is a popular shopping centre. It also has a large number of businesses and public institutions, which results in a large population and a large number of people commuting to and from the city on a daily basis.
Mirigama has well established road and railway links. The city is located on the AB29 road, which connects to the A1 Colombo - Kandy road on one end and B322 Ja-Ela - Kurunegala road on the other end. B324 Mirigama - Negombo road and many other regional roads start at Mirigama.
The city centre is 32km (approximately one hour) from the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Mirigama Railway Station is a major railway station on the Main Line and has frequent rail connections to Central Colombo, Badulla, Hatton, Kandy, Maho, Polgahawela and Rambukkana among others. A regular train trip from Mirigama to Colombo takes approximately 1.5 hours.
Also the construction of the central highway has made Mirigama one the Main exits and entrances.It is under construction and the construction of this highway has made the small town to turn up into a MEGAPOLIS in the Gamapaha District.
With the construction of the transit it will be of great use to the people of the country.There will be two transits namely : mirigama north and mirigama south.
Namely it is addressed as the KANDWAY AUTODROME , which is one of the most famous tracks among the riders of Sri Lanka .Also it is highly recognized as a national level CARPETED, PAVED racetrack. This racetrack in Mirigama is used for both motorbikes and cars.The track is 1.4 kilometre long and 30 metre wide racing track being developed in an area that spans 11 acres. It contains 7 bends altogether with 5 of them being left curves. Out of the five bends to left four prove to be a challenge to the competitors. Except for one of the remaining two bends to the right the other is not so hard to tackle. The track is in the centre of a 50-acre land which Jayantha Perera had bought two years ago for the purpose of materialising his dream..
