Canadian Ministers of Northern Affairs and National Resources
On January 18, 1950, the offices of Minister of Mines and Resources and Minister of Reconstruction and Supply were abolished and replaced by the offices of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Minister of Mines and Technical Surveys and Minister of Resources and Development.
The portfolio was renamed from "Resources and Development" to "Northern Affairs and National Resources" in 1953.
In 1966, the portfolio's responsibilities were divided between the new posts of Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (List) and Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources (List).
Canadian Wildlife Service was created under the Department which the minister was responsible for in 1947, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966 and finally transferred to the Minister of Environment and Fisheries in 1971 where it remains even after each change to the title to the environment ministry.
