Michael Tate (born March 8, 1979) is an American politician who served as the Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin from 2009 until 2015.
Tate was born on March 8, 1979 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in December 2005.
Tate served as the Deputy State Director of America Coming Together in 2004. He was hired as the State Director of Dean for America. He served as the Regional Political Director for AFSCME Council 40, and was the State Field Director for Falk for Governor. He was a Statewide Student Organizer for the 2000 Democratic Coordinated Campaign. Directly prior to assuming the role of chair of the state party, he served as the Executive Director of Fair Wisconsin and then the Executive Director of Advancing Wisconsin.
In March 2009, Tate announced that he was running to be elected state Democratic Party chairman at the party's June convention. He gained the endorsement of outgoing two-term party chair, Joe Wineke. On June 13, 2009 at the State Party Convention, Tate was elected the new chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, and at the age of 30, was now the youngest state chair in the country.
