Melissa 'Missy' Miller is the Assembly member for the 20th District of the New York State Assembly. She is a Republican. The district includes Long Beach, as well as Atlantic Beach, Cedarhurst, East Rockaway, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck, Island Park, Lawrence, Rockville Centre, Valley Stream, and Woodsburgh in Nassau County on Long Island.
Miller was born and raised in Atlantic Beach, New York. A mother of three, Miller lost her oldest daughter to a rare disease, while her other two children are chronically disabled. As a result, Miller is an advocate for disabled children. For many years she has been a leader with Compassionate Care New York.
For many years, Miller has worked professionally to train pediatric care professionals on how to properly care for chronically disabled children.
In 2016, Miller decided to make her first foray into public office, running for the New York State Assembly. While the 20th district had long been held by Democrats, it had been vacant for nearly seven months, following Todd Kaminsky winning election to the New York Senate.
