Media Arts and Practice

Created in 2013, Media Arts and Practice is the seventh degree-granting division of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. In addition to offering an undergraduate major, Media Arts and Practice houses the Ph.D. in Media Arts and Practice (iMAP) program, which began accepting students in 2007. The iMAP doctoral program is a practice-based Ph.D. program, in which students develop skills in both the theory and practice of media arts, doing doctoral level research that may be realized in an exclusively digital form.

The Media Arts and Practice Ph.D. was conceived by Anne Friedberg and Jen Stein with help from the program's founding director Steve F. Anderson. Currently, the overall program including graduate, undergraduate, and research areas is directed by Holly Willis with faculty including Scott Fisher, Kathy Smith, Mary Sweeney, Tara McPherson, Mark Bolas, Aniko Imre, Henry Jenkins, Andreas Kratky, Norm Hollyn, and Craig Dietrich.
