Maurine Whipple

Maurine Whipple (20 January 1903 – 12 April 1992) was a twentieth-century American novelist and short story writer best known for her novel The Giant Joshua (1941) about southern Utah and polygamy. The novel sold well but caused controversy among the Mormon community. She won the 1938 Houghton Mifflin Literary Fellowship for The Giant Joshua, which was intended to be part of a trilogy.

Whipple spent most of her life, including her early and later years, in Southern Utah. Her papers are in the special collections at Brigham Young University library.
