Matthew George "Matt" Frewer (born January 4, 1958) is an American Canadian actor, singer, voice artist and comedian. Acting since 1983, he is best known for portraying the 1980s icon Max Headroom,Hades' henchman Panic in Hercules (1997), next door neighbor Russell "Big Russ" Thompson in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), the retired villain Moloch in Watchmen (2009), cancer patient Mitch in 50/50 (2011), Doctor Leekie in the Canadian science fiction drama Orphan Black (2013–16) and Sherlock Holmes in four Hallmark Channel television productions released between 2000 and 2002.
Frewer's most recent performances include a cameo appearance as the Max Headroom character in the Adam Sandler comedy Pixels (2015), plus a portrayal of "General #2" in the Steven Spielberg picture The BFG (2016) (an adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's novel of the same name).
Frewer was born Matthew George Frewer on January 4, 1958 in Washington, D.C., the son of Gillian Anne (née German) and Frederick Charlesley Frewer, a Royal Canadian Navy officer. He was raised in Peterborough, Ontario, where he graduated from Lakefield College School. He went on to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating from its three-year acting course in 1980.
