North Plains Township is a civil township of Ionia County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,366 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93 km2), of which 35.9 square miles (93 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.17%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,366 people, 471 households, and 358 families residing in the township. The population density was 38.1 per square mile (14.7/km²). There were 496 housing units at an average density of 13.8 per square mile (5.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.36% White, 0.07% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.46% of the population.
There were 471 households out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.3% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% were non-families. 17.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.20.
