Mary Souza is a Republican member of the Idaho Senate and former nurse. She was first elected in 2014, defeating Constitution Party challenger Ray J. Writz with nearly 75% of the vote. Souza is facing Democratic challenger Kristi Milan in the 2016 election.
In 2015, she co-sponsored a bill that would allow parents to withdraw their children from any activity that "impairs the parents’ firmly held beliefs, values or principles."
Souza is opposed to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and is also opposed to expanding Medicaid.
Souza and her husband, Rick, have 4 children and one grandchild. They reside in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
