Marupuram

Marupuram is a 1990 Malayalam film directed by Viji Thampi and jointly written by Renjith and Kaloor Dennis. The film stars Jayaram, Mukesh, Urvashi, Sukumaran, Ashokan, M. G. Soman, Mahesh and Devan in the lead roles.

This is one of the best Suspense Thriller from the team of Viji Thampi , Renjith & Kaloor Dennis. Supported with a brilliant starcast of Jayaram, Mukesh,Sukumaran, Soman, Urvashi, Jagathy, Ashokan, Devan Lalu Alex and one of the best screenplays, Marupuram (The Other Side) takes you on a thriller ride that would keep you guessing till the very end. The high point of the movie is how all the subplots eventually converge, in a masterful buildup of esoteric clues, detailed intelligent investigation and inklings of doubt to make a grand climax.

Two friends, Sethu (Jayaram) and Roy (Mukesh)) are staying at a lodge owned by Ratna (Urvashi) & managed by Chakkuni (Jagathy).Sethu & Roy keep doing odd conning jobs to meet their ends & save money to send Roy abroad for a better job & living. They decide on a burglary that goes wrong & lands them in jail. After their release, Sethu realises its better to part ways with Roy.Both go on their different ways. Sethu reaches the lodge as he's in love with Ratna . Chakkuni helps Sethu by giving him some educational certificates that belonged to some previous tenant staying at the lodge. Sethu changes his name to Albert (the name on the educational certificate) & lands a job as a superviso of a company. Sethu lives in fear that someone would recognise him as Sethu & he may end up losing the job & also land up in jail again for forgery. Soman is a friend of Sethu's boss and comes to vist him along with his family. Soman's got a daughter who's under severe depression & refuses for marriage. Soman's meeting with Sethu startles & surprises Soman somehow. Soman informs Sethu that he has seen him somewhere and starts probing which scares Sethu a lot. Salim (Keerikkadan Jose) comes to town and starts inquiring about Albert. His agenda is to bump off Sethu. He tries once but fails. After Sethu returns, he sees Roy who has come to meet him. After dropping him off, Salim attacks Sethu again but loses his life accidentally. Issac Thomas (Sukumaran) has been entrusted the job to investigate Salim's death. He finds a note of Albert's address in Salim's wallet & his encounter with Sethu arises doubt of Sethu"s actual reality. The investigation begins and becomes more complex than it had actually seemed. The real Albert is dead & the suspect list is a lengthy one as everyone has a motive to kill Albert. The movie moves in top speed with a headlong rush of tension moving from one suspect to the other to reach the investigation challenge of - Who & Why& How.
