Maria Vigeland

Maria Vigeland (born 13 March 1903 in Oslo, died on 8 August 1983) was a Norwegian painter and sculptor. Vigeland decorated several burial chapels in Oslo, a crematorium in Drammen, an altarpiece and several pictures for Bredtveit Prison, and created various stained glass windows on various locations. She was the daughter of Emanuel Vigeland and niece of Gustav Vigeland. Her religious interests led her in to decorating churches and making monuments.

In her early years, she studied art in France and Italy. The studies would have particular significance for her stained glass.

Maria Vigeland also designed the monument "Hvilende kvinne" ("Reclining woman") at Østre Aker Cemetery at Ulven in Oslo. In Camilla Colletts vei in Tønsberg is Vigeland's sculpture "Piken med sjøpinnsvinet" ("Girl with sea urchin") from 1954.

She was unmarried and had no children.
