Maple River Township is a civil township of Emmet County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,232 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.5 square miles (92 km2), of which 35.3 square miles (91 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) (0.48%) is water.

This climatic region has large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Maple River Township has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,232 people, 434 households, and 352 families residing in the township. The population density was 34.9 per square mile (13.5/km²). There were 533 housing units at an average density of 15.1 per square mile (5.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 94.64% White, 2.84% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, and 2.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.81% of the population.

There were 434 households out of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.5% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% were non-families. 12.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.09.
