Mander Portman Woodward is a group of independent schools in England, with schools in London, Birmingham and Cambridge, offering GCSE and A-Level courses. The Chairman of Governors is Nigel Stout. The CEO is Spencer Coles. The school was formed in its current structure in 1973 by Robert Woodward, Rodney Portman and Nicholas Mander. MPW uses small group sizes (fewer than 10 pupils per class), which means that students get individual attention. Mander Portman Woodward also offer Easter revision courses for GCSE, AS and A level students from other schools. The London and Birmingham colleges are part of the CIFE group. MPW produce a range of books including 'Getting into...' guides, 'How to complete UCAS' and 'A-Z of surviving exams'. It was announced on 17 July 2012 that the Apollo Group sold MPW to Levine Leichtman Capital Partners Incorporated for £54.8m. MPW contributed less than 1% of Apollo’s earnings in 2011. MPW recorded operating profits of £3.93m (2010: £3.06m) in the twelve months ending August 2011 on revenues of £14.1m (2010: £12.6m). Operating margins hit 27.8% in 2011 up from 24.2% in the previous year. It was announced in December 2015 that Levine Leichtman would sell MPW to Kaplan International, however, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The college is located in South Kensington on the historic road of Queen's Gate. The college is spread across three buildings all merged into one building. The Good Schools Guide said that the school is "Huge, efficient, well-run, [and] does exactly what it says it does.". It is known more than others as a 'society' sixth form college, educating the children of European and London high society, and is mentioned in society guides such as Tatler and the Sloane Ranger's Handbook. Recent students have included Philippa Cadogan, Lily Allen, Ryan Benn, Tamara Beckwith, Nina de Roy, Petra Ecclestone, Binky Felstead, Spencer Matthews, Jamie Laing and Alice Dellal. The college usually accepts about 500 students per year. The current Principal is John Southworth. The Vice Principals are Christine Gavin and Petrouchka Stafford. Fees range from £7,686 to £8,845 per term (fees vary depending on number of subjects). Exam results: June 2015 - 98.9% A level pass rate with 34.1% A*/A. In its most recent ISI inspection report, the college has ISI's highest rating of "Excellent" in all assessment areas.
