Manasi Joshi Roy
Manasi Joshi Roy is an Indian film and television actress known for her roles in Saaya, Gharwali Uparwali and Kkusum.
Joshi has a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Mithibai College (Mumbai).
She is the daughter of Gujarati theatre actor, director and producer Arvind Joshi, and actor Sharman Joshi is her brother. She is married to actor Rohit Roy and has a daughter, Kiara, with him.
Manasi Joshi Roy the daughter of veteran theatre actor, director & writer Arvind Joshi started her career in acting at the age of 16 with the famous Gujarati play, ENI SUGANDHNO DARIYO written & directed by her father. She subsequently went on to act in 2 more plays with her father -TAMARI NEHA adapted from Neil Simons I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES & AASHIRWAAD based on the movie FATHER OF THE BRIDE. After completing her graduation with a BA in Psychology from Mithibai College in Mumbai she began modelling. She has modelled for more than hundred ad films. Various products like Hair & Care, Close Up, Ponds, Milkmaid, Surf, Kellogs etc.
She then went on to be the 1st Indian face on STAR MOVIES hosting a show called BOL BOLLYWOOD ! She hosted several other shows like ENTERTAINMENT NOW on DD & TARA RUM PUM PUM on STAR PLUS.
She made her Television debut with the period drama GAATHA on STAR PLUS produced & directed by Ramesh Sippy to commemorate 50 years of Independence in 1997. After that she went onto to do the hit show SAAYA on SONY where her memorable role as SUDHA made her a household favourite besides winning her the Screen Best Actress Award in 1999. Till date, Manasi is remembered as Sudha from SAAYA.
After SAAYA, she appeared in a completely new avatar as the glamorous ghost, Chandni in the comic caper GHARWALI UPARWALI on STAR PLUS.
Post this show she took a maternity break when her daughter, Kiara was born in 2002.
The arch lights beckoned once again & she returned to television as KKUSUM on SONY. When the show got over she moved onto taking part in the first season of the dance reality show NACH BALIYE on STAR PLUS with her husband Rohit Roy.
In 2007 she decided to fulfil a long standing dream of hers, when Rohit & she launched MAGICWORKS! their production house which has produced several fiction & non fiction shows. They made CINEMASCOPE for Zee Music & all the behind the scenes shows for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. ZOOM commissioned them to make 10 short films of 1 hour each. Manasi acted in 3 of these films, EK DIN ACHANAK, CUTE MEETS LOVE & LOVE STORY. She & Rohit started opposite each other in 2 of these films. They were the executive producers of 3 short films, RICE PLATE, GUBBARE & PURANMAASHI which were a part of Sanjay Gupta's movie DUS KAHANIYAAN. They also produced the art house film PANKH in association with Sanjay Gupta starring Bipasha Basu & Lillette Dubey.
