Maiden High School is a high school located in Maiden, North Carolina. It currently has about 800 students. Maiden High School is known for both its football and performing arts programs. In the past, the team's have won about 20 championships. Maiden High School moved from an older building (which is now Maiden Middle School) to the newly built high school. The school contains an auditorium, auxiliary gym, a main gym, an auto shop, a wood shop, and a culinary arts shop. The school consists of a main circle, with 7 halls branching out. Maiden High School operates on a four block schedule. Each block is an hour and thirty-five minutes long.
The school has an auto shop, a wood shop, a culinary arts shop, and an American football field. The school was built in 2006–2007 at a cost of $54,000,000. Sport programs at the school include football, basketball, soccer, tennis, Cross Country, Golf, Track, Cheerleading, softball, volleyball, baseball, and wrestling. Each sport has its own field or gym.
Maiden High School is revered for its Theatre and Performing Arts Troupe, more commonly referred to as the Main Street Players (based on the school's location on West Main Street, Maiden, NC). Throughout the past 5 years the program has produced numerous trend-setting and highly acclaimed musicals including their current production: Legally Blonde the Musical.
In October 2014, the school cancelled a performance of Almost, Maine after "some parents and area churches complained about the play’s inclusion of a same-sex couple" according to students.
In addition to the choral and theater programs, Maiden High School's band maintains a history of success and excellence. The band boast successful marching and symphonic band programs. The past 2 years have been great for marching competition. The band has won 2 Grand Championships in the past two years, and has won first in their class (A-AA) many times.
