2 Car Decks
The MV Kaleetan is a Super Class ferry operated by Washington State Ferries.
The Kaleetan (meaning arrow in Chinook) is named for a mountain peak northwest of Snoqualmie Pass. She can hold 144 vehicles, and 1868 passengers. She is in the third largest class of Washington State Ferries. She was built by National Steel and Shipbuilding in San Diego in 1967.
The Kaleetan went into service in early 1968 serving the Seattle-Bainbridge Island route. She was replaced by the M/V Spokane in 1973,and moved north to the Anacortes-San Juan Islands route. She remained in either the number two or three spot in the San Juans, until 1999, when she got a midlife upgrade. She received a new interior, and new steel. Her colors went from brown, to light and dark blue.
She spent her life in the San Juans, until 2007, when she was brought down to the Seattle-Bremerton route. She has remained on the Bremerton route since then, only going back to the San Juans when filling in for another vessel.
She is currently set to be retired in 2023 when the 6th Olympic Class vessel join the fleet.
