Lyons Township is a civil township of Ionia County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,446 at the 2000 census. The village of Lyons is mostly within the township. The villages of Muir and Pewamo are also within the township.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 37.0 square miles (96 km2), of which 36.2 square miles (94 km2) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2) (1.95%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,446 people, 1,268 households, and 929 families residing in the township. The population density was 95.1 per square mile (36.7/km²). There were 1,323 housing units at an average density of 36.5 per square mile (14.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.10% White, 0.09% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.49% from other races, and 1.68% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.68% of the population.
There were 1,268 households out of which 37.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.9% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.17.
