Lower Siang (Pron:/ˈsjæŋ or ˈsɪæŋ/) is the youngest administrative district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India. The Government of Arunachal Pradesh approved creation of Lower Siang along with three other new districts in January 2013. Its territory was to be carved out of West Siang and East Siang districts. The official formation of Lower Siang has been delayed because of disagreements over the location of its headquarters. Off late, the Pema Khandu led BJP government approved Likabali as the Headquarters of Lower Siang District in the Cabinet Meeting held on 22nd September, 2017.
The Lower Siang District is composed of Likabali, Basar and Nari-Koyu Assembly Constituencies.
Language spoken is Galo, a Sino-Tibetan tongue with approximately 80,597 (2001 census) speakers, written in Galo, an endangered language with 80,597 speakers.
The Galo population is estimated at 80,597 (2001 census), which, if accurate, would make them one of the most populous tribes of Arunachal Pradesh.
