Lower Red Lake


Lower Red Lake is an unorganized territory in Beltrami County, Minnesota, USA.The territory is located on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, and the town of Red Lake is located in the area. The population of the Lower Red Lake territory was 5,790 at the 2010 census.

The United States Census Bureau has identified four communities within the territory as census-designated places (CDPs). These settlements are not incorporated, and the area and population statistics for each CDP are also included in the aggregate values reported for the territory. The CDPs are:

According to the U.S. Census, the unorganized territory has a total area of 419.4 square miles (1,086.3 km2), of which 140.8 square miles (364.7 km2) is land and 278.6 square miles (721.6 km2), or 66.43%, is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,057 people, 1,323 households, and 1,088 families residing in the unorganized territory. The population density was 35.8 people per square mile (13.8/km²). There were 1,378 housing units at an average density of 9.8/sq mi (3.8/km²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory was 1.09% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 98.36% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.64% of the population.
