List of speed skating records

This list of speed skating records is an overview of the current speed skating records in its various events ratified by the International Skating Union.

For comparison, the fastest known 400 m lap was skated by Pavel Kulizhnikov on 20 November 2015 in Salt Lake City during his 500-meter world record race in 24.31 seconds with an average speed of 59.23 km/h (36.80 mph).

For comparison, the fastest known 400 m lap of 25.94 s was skated by Zhang Hong during a 500 m race in Salt Lake City on 20 November 2015 with an average speed of 55.51 km/h (34.49 mph).

Salt Lake City and Calgary, where all current world records were set, are at relatively high altitudes. Since speed skating is easier at high altitudes, skating statisticians keep separate lists for skating at (or close to) sea level, where times in Salt Lake City and Calgary are excluded.
