With an average elevation of 708 m above sea level, Albania is one of the most mountainous countries in the world. It has a mountainous terrain that covers more than 70% of its territory. There are many peaks reaching heights of more than 2,000 m above sea level. The tallest is Korab on the border with the Republic of Macedonia. It reaches a height of 2,751 metres.
Two large European mountain ranges dominate Albania, the Dinaric Alps and the Pindus mountains.
