List of metropolitan areas in Indonesia

This page lists official metropolitan areas in Indonesia. Official acronyms are used by government, including national, provincial, and regencies. These acronyms are composed of the constituent cities and regencies within a metropolitan area, however, are not directly comparable with one another.

Below is a list of looser definitions of metropolitan areas within Indonesia, including far more suburban areas, some definitions may include rural areas, using 2010 census figures.

Urban corridors are pairs or series of metropolitan zones, that can be thought of as one stretched agglomeration, or adjacent metropolitan areas which have multiple core cities and are elongated.

Technically, the whole north side of Java, which includes all 4 urban corridors above, is a series of metropolitan cities. For even wider scope, from Bandar Lampung on Sumatra to Java to Denpasar on Bali lies a near continual series of cities broken by some straits that potentially qualify as a megalopolis.
