The UK Singles Chart is one of many music charts compiled by the Official Charts Company that calculates the best-selling singles of the week in the United Kingdom. Before 2004, the chart was only based on the sales of physical singles. This list shows singles that peaked in the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart during 2003, as well as songs which peaked in 2002 and 2004 but were in the top 10 in 2003. The entry date is when the song appeared in the top 10 for the first time (week ending, as published by the Official Charts Company, which is six days after the chart is announced).
Two-hundred and twenty-nine songs were in the top ten in 2003. Eleven singles from 2002 remained in the top 10 for several weeks at the beginning of the year, while "Hey Ya! by Outkast was released in 2003 but did not reach its peak until 2004.Sk8er Boi, the second single released by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, was the only song from 2002 to reach its peak in 2003, reaching number eight on 5 January 2003 having entered the top 10 on 22 December 2002. Sixty artists scored multiple entries in the top 10 in 2003. 50 Cent, The Darkness, Good Charlotte, Sean Paul and The White Stripes were among the many artists who achieved their first UK charting top 10 single in 2003.
The 2002 Christmas number-one, "Sound of the Underground" by Girls Aloud (which was the group's winners single after being formed on Popstars: The Rivals) remained at number-one for the first three weeks of 2003. The first new number-one single of the year was "Stop Living the Lie" by Fame Academy winner David Sneddon. Overall, twenty-two different songs peaked at number-one in 2003, with Busted (2) having the most songs hit that position.
