The Haves and the Have Nots is an American primetime television soap opera created, executive produced, written and directed by Tyler Perry. The premise of the series is loosely based on Perry's 2011 play The Haves and the Have Nots.

The series follows three families and their lifestyles as they intersect with one another in Savannah, Georgia: the rich and powerful Cryer and Harrington families (dubbed "The Haves") and the poor and destitute Young family (dubbed "The Have Nots").

The fifth episode in Season 2 of The Haves and the Have Nots, "Why Didn't You Tell Me?" was not only a series high episode in ratings, but the most watched television program in all of cable for the night. The episode brought in 3.4 million viewers. Among all OWN programming since the network's January 2011 debut, only a March 2012 Oprah's Next Chapter interview with Bobbi Kristina has drawn more viewers (3.5 million) than the February-4-2014 episode of The Haves and the Have Nots. On Tuesday, March 11, 2014, however, a season 2 episode of The Haves and the Have Nots—following a hiatus within the season—set a record for all of OWN programming, scoring the highest ratings in the station's history. The record-breaking episode brought in 3.6 million viewers. Additionally, the episode came in at number 1 among all of cable television and number 4 among all shows on television for its airing night.

Outside the Cryer mansion, Amanda is having second thoughts about asking for her inheritance. After some persuasion—and a little reverse psychology—Candace convinces her to confront her parents. Inside, Katheryn and Jim are arguing about Wyatt's accident and say they have no time to deal with Amanda's problems. Upon seeing the guest her daughter has brought with her, Katheryn tells Candace to get out and makes veiled threats to reveal Candace's affair with Jim to Amanda.At the hospital, Hanna is trying to find out any information about Benny. The nurse tells her that he's still in surgery and that there's no new information. Because Friday nights tend to be chaotic for the county hospital, they only get sporadic updates from the doctor.

Candace and Jeffrey disagree on what to do with Quincy's body when interrupted by a knock on the door; The D.A., Jennifer, has big plans for the Cryers and the Harringtons; Meanwhile, the Cryers and the Harringtons deal with the consequences of their actions; Maggie and Landon leak information to the press, so David will get off; Jennifer is helping Wyatt get his inheritance, which is worth $12 million; Hanna rents a motel room because she refuses to live in Benny's new house.
