List of Star Wars books

This is a list of novels, novellas and short stories in the Star Wars franchise. Beginning with the 1999 release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Lucasfilm has divided its titles by era with symbols designating such. This list does not include journals, graphic novels or comic books, which can be found in the list of Star Wars comic books.

This list is split into two categories:

The official Star Wars canon includes all the movie episodes, the television shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and any books, comics, and video games published after April 2014. These stories are coordinated by the Lucasfilm Story Team to be consistent with both each other and the upcoming films.

This body of work represents the original Star Wars expanded universe, which was rebranded as Star Wars Legends and declared non-canon to the franchise in April 2014. Future works will not be based on these stories, but some elements may still be incorporated into them.

This section contains upcoming works that do not yet have a known placement within the timeline.

(I) stands for a story that was published in the monthly magazine Star Wars Insider.
(R) stands for a story that was published in the compilation book The Rise of the Empire, released in October 2015.
(T) stands for a story that was published in the compilation book Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away Volume I: Aliens, released in April 2016.
(S) stands for a story that was published as a stand-alone e-book.

Canon storybooks for younger readers that are shorter than a standard novel or young adult novel.

This era contains stories taking place more than 25,000 years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
