List of One-Punch Man characters

This is a list of the canonical fictional characters appearing in the Japanese manga series One-Punch Man by ONE (story-original manga) and Yusuke Murata (readaptation).

Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa (Japanese); Max Mittelman (English)

The eponymous character is by far the most powerful hero in the universe, armed with immeasurable strength, speed, stamina, reflexes to match his speed, power negation, indomitable willpower, telekinetic resistance and indestructibility. His powers are based on improvements of typical human traits, and as such he cannot fly or project energy beams like other heroes. He is currently registered with the Hero Association as a B-Class Rank 7 professional hero (A-Class Rank 39 in the web comic) and is tasked to defend Z-City against Mysterious Beings. Due to his immeasurable strength, almost all of Saitama's opponents are taken out with a single, nonchalant punch. Due to Saitama's unimpressive appearance, detached behaviour and amazing power, almost all his fights end humorously and anticlimatic.

Even Boros, who once traveled the universe ravaging everything in sight with minimal effort, noted that Saitama was still holding back at the end of their fight and did not even try to unleash his true strength. Garou, who had defeated some of the strongest members of the Hero Association, called Saitama the "final reserve of the Hero Association" above Tatsumaki's level. Consequently, the upward extent of Saitama's power is still unknown.

Saitama began training to become a superhero 3 years prior to the start of the series after he defeated a crab-like monster that attempted to kill a child. His training regimen consisted of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats and a 10 km run every single day, while also refusing to use the air conditioning and heat to strengthen his mind. Saitama genuinely believes that this training is the source of his inconceivable physical prowess, much to the disbelief of other characters in the series who note that his methods, while obsessive, are still fundamentally basic workout routines. The gross disproportion between Saitama's training regimen and the magnitude of abilities he developed has led other characters to theorize that Saitama either possessed latent superhuman qualities that manifested through his training, or that his sheer willpower has removed his natural limitations to growth potential entirely, according to Dr. Genus.

By the start of the series, Saitama faces an existential crisis of perpetual boredom due to his immeasurable strength keeping him from finding a challenge. His strength causes him to become increasingly emotionless, but he begins to discover different uses for his power upon meeting Genos and joining the Hero Association. As a hero, Saitama does not seek recognition or public acceptance. Saitama often states that his sole reason for being a hero is simply for fun, and often acts in a way that damages his reputation for the sake of saving the reputation of others. Despite his apathetic demeanour and plain appearance, his underlying charisma and sense of justice, coupled with his unfathomable power, have caused several higher ranking heroes in the association to take an interest in Saitama, with a few even making a point to befriend him.
