List of NBA head coaches

This list includes the date of hiring and the performance record of current National Basketball Association head coaches. The league consists of 30 teams, of which 29 are located in the United States and one in Canada. In the NBA, a head coach is the highest ranking coach of a coaching staff.

Gregg Popovich has served as the San Antonio Spurs head coach for 20 seasons, longer than any other current head coach. Popovich has also coached the most games (1,574), won the most games (1,089), and lost the most games (485) among active coaches with their current team. Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra are the second longest-tenured head coaches, having been appointed as head coaches since the 2008–09 season. None of the active head coaches have been inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach. Popovich is the only current head coach to be hired in the 90s; no other current coaches were hired before 2008.

All active head coaches are American. 15 coaches have spent their entire head coaching careers with their current teams: Mike Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks, Brad Stevens with the Boston Celtics, Kenny Atkinson with the Brooklyn Nets, Tyronn Lue with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Steve Clifford with the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, Fred Hoiberg with the Chicago Bulls, Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, Luke Walton with the Los Angeles Lakers, David Fizdale with the Memphis Grizzlies, Erik Spoelstra with the Miami Heat, Billy Donovan with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Earl Watson with the Phoenix Suns, Brett Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers, Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs, and Quin Snyder with the Utah Jazz.
