The Mario franchise is a series of video games developed and published by Nintendo. The franchise features an extensive cast of characters.

Mario (Japanese: マリオ, Hepburn: Mario^?, [ma.ɽi.o]) (English /ˈmɑːrioʊ/; Italian: [ˈmaːrjo]) is an Italian plumber and the main host of the series.

Luigi (Japanese: ルイージ, Hepburn: Ruīji^?, [ɽɯ.iː.dʑi]) (English /luːˈiːdʒi/; Italian: [luˈiːdʒi]) is Mario's twin brother and is also a plumber. He is the official 'Player 2' of the series.
