It stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth "Bess" Adams McCord, an ex CIA analyst who becomes the United States Secretary of State. On March 23, 2017, CBS renewed the series for a fourth season, which will premiere on October 8, 2017. As of May 21, 2017,^[update] 68 episodes of Madam Secretary have aired, concluding the third season.
