List of American football players who died during their career

This is a list of players of American football who died while still on a team roster. Included are players in the NFL, arena football, and college who have died as a result of team bus and plane accidents such as the plane crashes by Marshall and Wichita State's team airplanes, players who committed suicide, players who were a victim of a homicide, accidents, and drownings. Players who died following the conclusion of their career should not be included. Each NFL player is listed with team he last played for before death, rather than the team he spent most of his playing career with.

This table is only for players who ended their NFL career to join the military in a time of war, including players who were drafted into the military, and were killed in action.
